Well, I got my wish.Jauron is gone. Happy Days ahead right? Well, let me sleep on it for awhile. BBAQ with a little more for ya on the subject in a few...until then, rest assured that Schoop has called is last play for the Bears!
Rex Grossman wins his first game as our starting QB. It was a decent effort by young Rex. No picks!
The offense made very few mistakes, and the defense did a great job of lulling the Vikings to sleep
by allowing a rookie running back (Toronto Smith -- er. Edmington...no, wait, Ontario!) to rush
for 148 yards. It must have confused Mike Tice to see his running game back, and on the road no less.
When Tice finally woke up, and realized Randy Moss was dozing off on the job -- another rookie, this time
on defense snatched certain victory out of the Vikings hands. Literally.
So kudos to "Peanut" Tillman for a job well done and helping his fellow rookie get his first win.
I can tell you everyone watching the game with me yesterday was pretty excited to see the kid playing.
It gave us hope that the Bears future isn't going to be as bleak as these last 2 seasons have been.
Coach Jauron still has these guys playing for him, and this might save his job. But Virginia, if you're
reading this blog -- don't do it. The excitement this city felt from a 23 year old rookie QB can be
magnified if he is paired with a better staff of mentors. Let the Yaley go on his merry way, and make
sure he takes his crap assistants with him. There is no reason that this team cannot get to the playoffs
next year. Our rookies are good -- Briggs, Tillman, now Grossman gets his chance to show his stuff.
If he wins out, I'll sleep better knowing our future, for once, might actually be in good hands.
Now onto other business: This blog is a work in progress and if you haven't noticed us yet, its because
we haven't exposed it to the blogsphere yet. The holidays are upon us and I am totally
swamped with real work, but in the coming weeks look for some new features and sections of the site.
We might be adding new authors in the new year as well as a new interface for the main site.
So hang tight for '04
Thanks to yesterday's loss to the Packers, the beloved Bear is finally eliminated from the playoff hunt. Well, it was inevitable after such a horrible start. I'm sad to see our chances go down the drain, but even sadder to see rumors of Dick Jauron's job security increase. Hopefully, ESPN and the Tribune are wrong when they say that Jauron is on the hot seat. The impression I get from people here in Chicago is that as long as Schoop is gone -- they'll be happy. We'll have to wait and see how much of these rumors are based in fact. Finally, now that the Bears are out of it, the fans here are pushing to see Grossman out there. The media here is split on the decision to play the kid, but as far as I can tell playing him isn't going to happen this year. That is, unless Angelo steps in and forces the coaches hand. To me, this is a win-win situation. The kid gets experience, and we lose the rest of our games. We need to move up the draft list anyway. Let's see what he can do against Washington (don't start him against the Vikes) Until next week...
