It has almost been a year

My one year blog anniversary is almost upon us. I hope to have some surprises for everyone when it comes around....in the meantime I wrote some of this down last night:

Let us take a breather for a moment from all the sports talk. I enjoy the sports talk, and I think it is the type of opinion you hear around the water cooler that everyone can engage in. Black, white, Asian, Latino, man or woman, sports is the great equalizer. It's good practice for me. I have been known for being brash and very opinionated in the real world. I am trying to learn how to be more "political" as a result of this trait. Which sucks, but after many years of this lifestyle it takes a toll on you personally, professionally and health wise if you don't have a filter. I'm learning slowly and I think the reason I blog about sports is because this is the one topic in our daily lives that is frivolous. It is entertainment, when done right. Get fiery if you like, it does no harm. I hate the Packers, you hate the bears. We can still share a pint together.

You can get into heated debate on who is the best quarterback in the league, or will the Cubs make the playoffs (no, in case you are wondering), or even if hockey matters without really hurting anyone's delicate feelings. For the most part, you can have these "debates" without starting a Jihad or revolution. I know people take sports too seriously sometimes -- but in reality its a game. It's like when I was a kid and I got called out on a steal attempt to second in a sand lot game...You kick some dirt, you scream, you might even take your ball and go home. But you know you will be back tomorrow.
It is an outlet.

The point my fellow sports fanatics, is that we read, write, and overall communicate more than most people in this world. Sports brings us closer to technology, math, reading, and ethics. It is, and always will be, the great equalizer. With an election around the corner, and a rather well executed debate last night on things WAY more important than sport, I want to remind you that you have a skill set that is in great demand. For me it's a great outlet to practice my writing(yea, it sucks, it used to be much better) and my communication skills with others.
I hope it will also allow me to branch out and feel more confident to discuss and get involved in other topics around me besides sports and technology. Long live sport!
