  • Stuff I Like: Sports! (not the album by Huey Lewis)

This might be the most obvious "Stuff I Like" post imaginable. Of course I like sports, I write a freaking sports blog. What prompts this post is the fact that the Olympics are over, and I must admit that I'm not that much of a fan and I'm glad its over. Sure, seeing Michael Phelps...

  • 7/31/2008: Quick hits on MLB, the NFL and the NBA

Ain't nothing like random thoughts by a faceless dude on the internets, so here goes: Today was the MLB Trade Deadline, and this might have been the most active trade deadline in terms of star power ever. Three first ballot hall of famers (Pudge, Junior, and Manny) were traded in the last 24 hours...

  • So What Have I Missed? Bulls to Hire Collins and Cubs Streaking at Home

The other day, in the middle of nowhere, Georgia, I decided to take a second and check out espn.com on my cell. After all, "nowhere" gets 3G. My goal was to find out what time the Cubs game was starting, though instead I was greeted with the front page headline, "Bulls to hire Doug Collins...

  • Vacation's Over: Did I miss anything?

I'm back. March 18, 1995. Basketball icon Michael Jordan returns to the Chicago Bulls with a (somewhat pompous) two-word press release. I'm back. March 11, 2007. "Idiot with an Internet connection" returns from a seven-day trip to Mexico with an (extremely pompous) two-word declaration. Did I miss anything...

  • Labor Day Potpourri

Today was Labor Day and I just got back from a nice weekend with the family, which of course means it's time to catch up on weekend sports. The Bears made final cuts. Nothing surprising and the most notable name cut was former first rounder Michael Haynes. He just couldn't crack the rotation on the line...

  • The Comebacks

There were three comebacks last night in the world of Chicago Sports, though two of them still fell short. Let's take 'em one at a time: The Cubs trailed 3-0 going into the 8th inning against the Marlins and looked dead in the water. Zambrano had a rough go of it early on, both walking a ton and striking...

  • Weekend Wrap-Up

I had a virtually sports-free weekend as I spent the weekend celebrating Easter with the family. So tonight I caught up on some box scores. What did find? Before I left, I did manage to watch Friday night's Cubs win over the Pirates. Marshall looked as perfect as his line through the first three innings...

  • Thoughts on a beautiful Labor Day

I echo Perry's plea to help out the people in New Orleans. I can't even fathom what these people are going through. All we can do is send a donation, some prayers, and hope for the best. Sports are so insignificant in the grand scheme of things, and its times like these that serve as a big reminder....
